Dark walls and cool, gray concrete contrast against oak millwork, soft, diffused lighting, and natural fibers.

Due to its location in downtown Santa Barbara, the hotel took cues from dense, urban spaces that challenge the typical warm beach atmosphere. The design draws inspiration from Drift’s roots in Baja and translates them to fit the context of Santa Barbara—with black painted walls, headboards constructed from repurposed redwood indigenous to California, and pops of brass accents dotted throughout the venue.

In a city known for its Spanish architecture, Drift Santa Barbara is reinventing the narrative with an emphasis on high design and uniqueness. The exterior follows the conventional Spanish style with glimpses of a modern interior, and an overall restrained design aesthetic that encourages travelers to venture outside and explore the beauty the city has to offer.
