to a YMCA in the 1960s, the hotel puts guests just steps from some of Downtown L.A.’s most colorful neighborhoods, including the Fashion District and South Park District. The singular basketball court and swimming pool suites make perfect venues for special events, while the multilevel rooftop deck is home to cozy corners, a fire pit, a pool, and a sky-high restaurant and bar.
Interior design Kelly Wearstler
Conversation starters throughout the hotel include a mosaic wall in the pool suite by Ben Medansky, the reception desk by Morgan Peck, artwork in the guestrooms by Jason Trotter, glass windows and doors by Judson Studios, and the occasional statement mirror by Matthew Morgan, while the furniture was designed by Jay Edward, Composition, AFM, Mirror Image, and Spike Lighting.
Food & Drink Triple treasure
Helmed by James Beard award-winners, the ground floor Caldo Verde is an homage to global culinary traditions, from Spanish to Moorish, Corsican to Portuguese, featuring vegetable-driven market fare. The rooftop Cara Cara, with its 360-degree city views and al fresco dining, is the perfect mix of delectable Southern California cuisine and social vibrancy. And the intimate Dalia is a speakeasy lounge that is filled with the drama of L.A.’s past—and present.
Well-being Sky dive
Intimate corners, a checkered tile firepit, and all-day dining and drink mean the pool setting is alive under the sun and the stars. A terraced layout and just the right amount of added greenery define one of the most dramatically perched hotel pools in Los Angeles.
Art & Culture Local creations
An eye-grabbing mural of birds and jungle creatures by Los Angeles-based painter, illustrator, and designer Abel Macias; a richly textured clay façade covering the reception desk by Morgan Peck; and a colossal stained-glass doorway by Judson Studios are just three of the hotel’s arresting artistic works.
Design
“Artists’ works truly make my projects shine,” Wearstler tells us. Here, we take a walk though the hotel with the designer and the L.A. creators who brought her vision to life.
