St. Georg is located just north of Hamburg’s Altstadt and south of the Alster Lake, and has two main veins bringing life to the neighborhood: The Lange Reihe street is one of the city’s more vibrant LGBT areas, as well as being a culinary hotspot, and is filled with bars and clubs that attract an artist and student crowd from the nearby University of Applied Sciences. The An der Alster is a more exclusive retreat, due to its lakeside location and rows of luxury apartments. The Alster also provides a romantic backdrop for the area and can be seen from the rooftop terrace of The George. The Steindamm also runs through the neighborhood and omits a seedier vibe with a red-light feel. Overall, the neighborhood is a diverse and vibrant platter of indulgence in many forms.
