Location
Many visitors to the South of France know about Arles’ Saturday market, as it’s one of the best in Provence. But those who look beyond the bargains and wares are richly rewarded by Roman treasures, lovely shade-filled squares, and Van Gogh scenery come-to-life. Not to be missed are Les Arènes, a preserved Roman coliseum where gladiators once combated; the Foundation Vincent Van Gogh, located in a 15th-century manor; and LUMA Arles, an experimental new institution dedicated to contemporary arts and culture set in the Parc des Ateliers. Arles also makes the prefect launching point for exploring the Camargue, a natural wonderland of flora and fauna located south of the city.
